Last week I visited Puerto Rico and it was an unforgettable experience, to say the least. I traveled all around the territory, going from Old San Juan to Río Grande to Culebra. In this post, I explore Old San Juan, while wearing an outfit that reminds me of the Puerto Rican and American flags. With my star earrings, bright red shirt, blue skirt, and white sandals (not pictured), I am practically a walking, stylized version of the flags. Old San Juan is quite lovely. It features small colored, Carribean-style buildings, quite opposite from the towering gray skyscrapers that I’m used to in New York City. The cobblestone streets were narrow and peaceful, with a sort of silent abandonment during the weekday. Come Saturday night, the streets were lively with musicians performing and people dining. The historic quality of Old San Juan is well-preserved and highlighted by the surrounding Castillo San Felipe del Morro, a 16th-century citadel overlooking the neighboring ocean. With the turquoise ocean and cerulean sky sandwiching the pastel-colored architecture, Old San Juan was a colorful Carribean paradise.
